Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney: "We are not ruthless enough"

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits that his side are struggling in the final third of the pitch this season following their goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has conceded that his side were not ruthless enough in their goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

The Red Devils spurned the chance to secure their place in the next round of the competition as Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Memphis Depay all missed good chances to guide their side to victory at Old Trafford.

The result means that United have to beat Wolfsburg in their final match, or hope that PSV cannot defeat CSKA Moscow in their contest, to advance to the last 16 of the tournament.

Rooney told BBC Sport: "It is a game we were capable of winning and we played some good stuff in the first half and we were unlucky not to go in up at the break. In the second half we showed a lack of composure so that was not great, overall a draw was probably fair but this is what we did not want.

"Going to Germany is always tough, we have to believe in ourselves and have confidence we can do that, it's not the way we wanted but that is the way it is and we have to believe we are good enough to get three points.

"We are not ruthless enough - we have to score more goals as a team, they were able to nearly hit us on the break a few times, a learning curve but we cannot go on saying that. We have to change these games into victories."

United travel to Wolfsburg for their final Group B match on December 8.
