Darren Fletcher leaves Manchester United for West Bromwich Albion

Midfielder Darren Fletcher leaves Manchester United after 13 years to join West Brom on a two-and-a-half-year contract, with the option for an extra 12 months.

Darren Fletcher has ended his 13-year career with Manchester Untied to sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with West Bromwich Albion.

The 30-year-old joins on a free transfer and the Baggies have an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months should they wish.

Fletcher had been expected to move to West Ham United before talks broke down over the weekend due to a failure to agree personal terms.

Albion revived their interest in the Scotland captain on deadline day and were granted an extension to complete the deal beyond the close of the window.

West Brom have revealed that Fletcher has been given the same number 24 shirt that he wore during the majority of his 340 appearances for United, with whom he won five Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cups.

Fletcher appears likely to be Tony Pulis's only deadline-day arrival, with late attempts to sign Norwich City left-back Marcus Olsson and West Ham United striker Carlton Cole having seemingly failed.
