Hugo Lloris is delighted to have Harry Kane back fit and firing, admitting that the Englishman is the key to Tottenham Hotspur prolonging their European aspirations.

Tottenham Hotspur skipper Hugo Lloris has admitted that his side's hopes of progression in the Champions League lie largely on the shoulders of returning striker Harry Kane.

The England international is back in contention after featuring in both of the Lilywhites' last two games either side of the international break.

Kane marked his return to action by scoring from the penalty spot in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, before following up that display with a double - including another spot kick - in the dramatic 3-2 victory over West Ham United on Saturday.

With Spurs requiring all three points over AS Monaco in the south of France on Tuesday evening, Lloris acknowledges that having Kane back among the goals is vital to any aspirations Tottenham have of remaining alive in Europe.

"One thing is very important - the return of Kane," he told reporters. "He is bringing a lot of positive energy as we saw against Arsenal and West Ham. He is a very important player for us. He is going to be decisive hopefully.

"It's simple. He is one of the leaders and tomorrow is an important moment for Tottenham this season so we need all our top players at the top level. It's our responsibility to play at that level."

Lloris revealed on the eve of the game that he is "fully committed" to Spurs, despite stalling on talks over a new long-term deal at the club.
