Aston Villa are reportedly considering a bid for West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson if Ron Vlaar leaves the club to join Manchester United.
The Swedish centre back has found first-team opportunities with the Baggies hard to come by since the arrival of Joleon Lescott from Manchester City last summer.
However, The Mirror reports that manager Paul Lambert sees Olsson as the perfect replacement for Vlaar should the Red Devils step up their pursuit of the Dutchman in the next transfer window.
Villa may consider selling their captain in January to avoid losing him on a free transfer, especially with suggestions that he is not interested in agreeing a new deal to remain at Villa Park.
