West Bromwich Albion are reportedly weighing up a loan offer for Zamalek centre-back Ali Gabr as they fear losing Jonny Evans to a Premier League rival.
Manchester City and Arsenal have both made enquiries about Evans's availability and are expected to make a formal approach before the January window closes.
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Northern Irishman's future, the Express & Star suggests that Alan Pardew is eyeing up a temporary move for Gabr.
The 29-year-old, a teammate of Albion defender Ahmed Hegazi, is said to be a long-term target for the Baggies as he was also wanted by ex-boss Tony Pulis.
West Brom will have to hand over up to £750,000 to loan Gabr from Zamalek, it is claimed, with the option of signing him permanently at the end of the campaign.
