Mikhail Youzhny made it through to the third round of the Rome Masters this afternoon with victory over Andrey Golubev.
Youzhny was already 7-5 4-1 ahead when Golubev retired early two games from defeat.
In the first set Golubev broke Youzhny to take a 5-4 lead and served for the set, but couldn't see it out as 14th seed Youzhny broke right back.
The Russian then broke Golubev again at the next time of asking to clinch the set 7-5 just before the tie-break.
It was three breaks in a row for Youzhny as he moved 3-0 up in the second, with Kazakh Golubev retiring soon after.
Youzhny is next up against the winner of the Rafael Nadal vs. Gilles Simon match currently taking place.
