Rio Ferdinand believes that Robin van Persie's arrival will boost Manchester United's chances of winning the Premier League title.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes that striker Robin van Persie's arrival will boost his side's chances of winning the Premier League this season.

Van Persie completed his medical late on Thursday evening as he prepares to join United from Arsenal in the next few days.

Ferdinand has confidence in the Netherlands international's ability to help the Red Devils win silverware this campaign.

"The manager (Sir Alex Ferguson) has always said to me that the transfer window isn't always about who you bring in but it's as much about shaking up the changing room," he enthused.

"And I think that's definitely something that's going to happen this time. Expectations here are higher than anywhere else in the world, some do brilliantly and some don't fare quite so well.

"I've got no worries about Robin, though. I know his main aim won't be a selfish one, it will be all about winning trophies."

United will start their 2012-13 Premier League campaign with an away game against Everton on Monday.
