Summer signing Anthony Modeste doubled Hoffenheim's advantage soon after the break, but Nuremburg swiftly responded as Mike Frantz reduced the deficit with a powerful header.
Just two minutes later Daniel Ginczek smashed home an equaliser for Nuremburg to stun the home crowd.
