Manchester United want Rio Ferdinand to return as future club ambassador?

Manchester United are reportedly keen for Rio Ferdinand to return to the club in an ambassadorial role when he decides to retire.

Manchester United are reportedly keen to welcome Rio Ferdinand back to Old Trafford in an ambassadorial role.

The 35-year-old confirmed on Monday evening that his United career is over following reports that the club decided against renewing his contract.

According to ESPN, United are not ready to cut ties with Ferdinand completely, as they want him to return to the club in some capacity when he retires as a reward for his 12 years of service.

Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles with United and earned a Champions League winners' medal, has suggested that he will continue his playing career with another club next season.
