Goal milestone delights Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe reflects on moving into the top five of Tottenham Hotspur's all-time goalscorers.

Jermain Defoe has described becoming Tottenham Hotspur's fifth leading goalscorer of all time as "a dream".

The England international striker achieved the feat last night by scoring twice in his side's 4-0 League Cup victory over Aston Villa, taking his tally for the Lilywhites to 139.

"If someone would have said to me when I first walked into Spurs that I would be in the top five all-time goal scorers in the club's history, I would have probably said 'are you being serious?'" he told the club's official website. "I look at all the great players in the top 10 and to be fifth, it's a dream.

"I'm trying not to think about it too much as it's a long season, but of course it's at the back of my mind every time I go on the pitch because I want to score. It's something special and I want to keep it going."

Defoe spent four years at White Hart Lane up until 2008 before a spell with Portsmouth. He then returned to Tottenham in 2009.
