Arsenal are reportedly set to miss out on Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo, with the player now set to join German side Schalke 04 on a six-month loan deal.
Todibo has had limited game time since joining Barcelona from Toulouse last year and is now set to move out on loan in order to gain more experience.
According to Football.London, Todibo will join Schalke after the German outfit beat both Arsenal and AC Milan to the 20-year-old's signature.
The report adds that, following Calum Chambers's injury, Arsenal are on the lookout for defenders and could have signed Todibo on loan, although Barcelona were unwilling to listen to permanent offers.
Mikel Arteta will reportedly look to bring in one or two loan signings this January but Arsenal are unlikely to secure anyone on a permanent deal.
Currently, Arsenal have David Luiz, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding as their senior fit defenders, but Holding is returning from a significant injury lay-off.
