Manchester City and Liverpool could reportedly go head-to-head to sign Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Facundo Buonanotte in 2025.

Manchester City and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion's highly-rated youngster Facundo Buonanotte.

The 19-year-old attacker has made 50 competitive appearances for the Seagulls, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

However, Buonanotte has been allowed to leave the South-coast club to gain valuable playing time on loan at newly-promoted Leicester City.

Buonanotte has already made a positive impact for the Foxes, having scored three goals and contributed two assists in seven Premier League matches.

The Argentine scored his latest goal in Saturday's comeback victory over fellow newly-promoted side Southampton, with Buonanotte netting Leicester's first goal to spark a fightback from two goals down.

Man City, Liverpool targeting Buonanotte

Buonanotte's impressive performances for Steve Cooper's side have caught the attention of two Premier League heavyweights.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Man City and Liverpool are showing an interest in signing the Brighton loanee in 2025.

The Seagulls are under no immediate pressure to sell the youngster after he extended his contract until June 2028 before he moved on loan to Leicester.

With Brighton reluctant to part ways with Buonanotte, there is a belief that they will demand at least €30m (£25m) from his potential suitors in 2025.

The report claims that Man City and Liverpool would both be willing to meet Brighton's financial demands, raising the possibility that the two clubs could go head-to-head in a transfer battle.

Why do Man City and Liverpool want to sign Buonanotte?

The teenager, who has made two appearances for Argentina, tends to operate as an attacking midfielder, but he also has previous experience of playing as a winger.

While Man City are blessed with an array of attacking talent, they may view Buonanotte as someone who has the potential to grow into a first-team regular at the Etihad Stadium.

As for Liverpool, they appear to be scouring the market for possible attacking reinforcements due to the uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah's future.

The Egypt international is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal with the Merseyside club.
