Napoli into Coppa Italia final following victory over Roma

Napoli progress into the final of the Coppa Italia as they overcome Roma with a 3-0 home victory at the Stadio San Paolo.

Napoli have progressed into the final of the Coppa Italia as they recorded a 3-0 home win over Roma in the second leg of their semi-final encounter this evening.

Adem Ljajic almost helped to put Roma ahead after only a few minutes as he sprung the offside trap before feeding Mattia Destro. However, Pepe Reina pulled off a standout save to keep the scores level.

Napoli went in search of a goal that would potentially see them through to the final, but Marek Hamsik blazed high and wide as his side broke away on the counter.

Roma almost took the lead when Gervinho was found on the penalty spot, but he smashed his effort straight into a defender, before Ljajic crashed the ball over the bar on the follow-up.

Napoli grabbed the game's opener in the 33rd minute when Christian Maggio crossed for Jose Callejon to head home and earn the hosts a vital goal in the tie.

The hosts doubled their advantage straight after the interval as Gonzalo Higuain evaded his marker to nod into the net following a corner.

The Blues were 3-0 ahead after 51 minutes when Dries Mertens played in Brazilian Jorginho, who dinked his shot over the goalkeeper to push Napoli further in front.

Roma thought they had pulled a goal back, but Kevin Strootman's header was ruled out for offside, leaving Napoli to gain passage into the final of the Coppa Italia.
