Rangers to rename Govan Stand stand in honour of Sandy Jardine

Rangers reveal plans to rename their Govan Stand after club legend Sandy Jardine, who died earlier this year.

Rangers are preparing to rename their Govan Stand at Ibrox in honour of club legend Sandy Jardine.

Jardine, who played over 600 games for the Scottish side, lost his battle with cancer back in April, and the club plans to dedicate the stand to the former player in time for the new domestic season.

"Sandy Jardine epitomised everything that is good about Rangers Football Club," chief executive Graham Wallace told BBC Sport.

"He was a man of principle and class and his contribution throughout his career both on and off the pitch was truly incredible.

"His achievements are unlikely to be seen again in the modern game and this is a truly fitting way to honour Sandy's memory. The renaming of the Govan Stand will be a permanent tribute to a man who gave everything for Rangers."

Jardine won two domestic Trebles during his time with Rangers and represented Scotland 38 times.
