Stevenage secure a spot in the fifth round of the FA Cup after a 1-0 win over Notts County on Saturday afternoon.

Stevenage secured their passage into the fifth round of the FA Cup after a 1-0 win over Notts County on Saturday afternoon.

It was the home side who made the most of the early possession and they found themselves ahead after 12 minutes.

Luke Freeman whipped in a dangerous ball to the near post and County's Damion Stewart could only slice into his own net from six yards.

Freeman was again involved after 36 minutes with an effort at goal from outside the area, but it drifted just wide of the target.

The away side began the second period with better purpose and might have been level after 53 minutes when Jeff Hughes found himself unmarked in the area, but his header drifted just wide of the post.

Darius Charles so nearly added a second for Stevenage after 65 minutes but he smashed the post with an effort from distance.

Charles again went close after 71 minutes with a header inside the area, but it cleared the crossbar when he might have done better.

The two sides will meet again in League One on Saturday afternoon.
