Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill reveals that he wants to add two new players to his squad before the start of the new season.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has revealed that he is looking to add at least two new faces to his squad in time for the new season.

The Black Cats have already signed Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar in what has been their only bit of business this summer.

O'Neill now wants further additions, but only if they are right for the team.

"We are obviously in the market to try to strengthen our team, of course. I think that's pretty obvious - all football clubs will be trying to do that," he told The Journal.

"But for us, it would be nice to add a couple of fresh faces - not just for the sake of it, but to improve the quality of the squad, which is what we are trying to do."

Sunderland open the new Premier League season away to Arsenal on Saturday, August 18.
