Former Everton forward Graham Sharp believes that new signing Antolin Alcaraz will turn out to be a shrewd bit of business by boss Roberto Martinez.

Former Everton striker Graham Sharp believes that the signing of Antolin Alcaraz was a "good" piece of business by manager Roberto Martinez.

The Paraguayan international was available on a free transfer after his contract at Wigan Athletic was not renewed, and Martinez was able to swoop for his former player at the Latics earlier this month.

"[Martinez] has worked with him before and knows what he is all about," Sharp told the club's official website.

"We have talked about Roberto Martinez and what different ideas he is going to bring to Everton, so he could play in the back as a third centre-back. We will have to wait and see what the manager decides to do with him.

"If we are looking at the left-back position, he can fill in there if he must, so I think it's a good acquisition."

The 30-year-old made 77 appearances for Wigan in his three years at the club.
