Sunderland striker Fabio Borini has expressed his delight at joining "the biggest club" in the North of England after moving on a permanent deal from Liverpool.

The 24-year-old spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan with the Black Cats, during which time he helped the club to fight off the threat of relegation and also reach the final of the League Cup.

Borini, an Italy international, told The Mirror: "It is the perfect time to come back. I am here to stay and play.

"I am proud to wear the shirt because Sunderland is the biggest club here up North. I hope we have a successful season. We all want that."

Borini scored seven goals in 32 appearances for the Wearsiders during his first loan spell at the Stadium of Light.
