Father: 'Keylor Navas is not accepted as Real Madrid goalkeeper'

The father of Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas claims that the Spanish press have not accepted him as Los Blancos' first-choice stopper.

The father of Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has claimed that the Spanish media want Los Blancos to have a Spanish stopper.

Navas arrived at the Bernabeu from Levante last summer, but was forced to play second fiddle to Iker Casillas last term.

Now David de Gea's reported move to Madrid has broken down, Navas is expected to be the club's first-choice goalkeeper, at least until January.

However, Freddy Navas has said that his son is not fully accepted because he is not Spanish.

"The press want a Spaniard in goal at Madrid. They don't accept a Central American. They know he's the best but their pride won't let them accept it," AS quotes the stopper's father as saying.

Navas, who will battle Kiko Casilla for the gloves at the Bernabeu over the next few months, was close to joining Manchester United late on Monday evening.
