League Two roundup: Port Vale close gap on leaders Gillingham

Port Vale reduce Gillingham's lead at the top of League Two to five points with a 3-2 victory over Cheltenham Town.

Port Vale have closed the gap on League Two leaders Gillingham with a 3-2 win over promotion rivals Cheltenham Town at Vale Park.

Tom Pope scored his third hat-trick of the season to give Micky Adams's side the win and move them to within five points of the Gills, who travel to Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Rotherham United moved up to sixth place in the table after beating AFC Wimbledon 1-0 thanks to Alex Revell's header with 14 minutes remaining.

New Southend United manager Phil Brown saw his side go 2-0 up over Bradford City at Valley Parade in his first match in charge, but the hosts fought back in the second half to salvage a 2-2 draw.

At the other end of the table, Accrington Stanley secured a crucial 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Wycombe Wanderers. Lee Molyneux's 90th-minute winner moved them five points clear of the drop zone.

Elsewhere, Aldershot moved off the bottom of the table after their 1-1 draw at Rochdale, a result which leaves them two points adrift of safety.
