David Gold: 'Sam Allardyce did a job for West Ham United'

Former West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce left the club "on good terms", according to Hammers co-chairman David Gold.

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has insisted that Sam Allardyce left the club "on good terms".

The 60-year-old parted ways with the Hammers shortly after the final game of the Premier League season in May, amid suggestions that the West Ham hierarchy were not satisfied with the job that he was doing.

Gold has hinted that Allardyce could have done more in his final season at Upton Park after making a bright start to the campaign.

"He did everything asked of him. We asked him to get us promoted in his first season, and he did that - by the skin of his teeth," Gold told ESPN.

"He then stabilized the club in the Premier League and we improved slowly over the last three years. However, having got to fourth at Christmas last season, it was disappointing to slip into relegation form after that.

"He did a job for us; we did a job for him. We leave on good terms. Nothing is forever."

Allardyce was succeeded at West Ham by Slaven Bilic.
