Ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that the Gunners have the quality needed to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title.

Arsene Wenger has insisted that former club Arsenal are capable of challenging for the Premier League title under Unai Emery.

The Frenchman stepped down from his position as Gunners boss at the end of last season following a 22-year spell in North London.

Emery has made a positive start to the job by winning 11 of his 14 games in charge, including a run of 10 successive victories in all competitions that ended at Crystal Palace last weekend.

Wenger admits that seeing Arsenal perform well makes him happy, and he hopes that his successor can mark the first season at the Emirates Stadium helm in the best way possible.

"Why not? When you look at last season at home we won 15, drew two and lost two - it's away we were not good enough," he told Sky Sports News. "But overall the quality's there.

"They have a chance - but at the moment we have some other teams who look very strong as well. When Arsenal win I am happy. I felt I worked very hard and I think I left it in good shape. After that, I'm a supporter like anyone else - I want them to win football games.

"As a manager you have an influence, not only on the careers of players, the style of play and results but on the structure and impact you give to the club and overall that is very important - that the club can always continue at a very good level."

Arsenal are fourth in the English top flight after 10 matches, four points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
