Borussia Monchengladbach sack head coach Andre Schubert

Borussia Monchengladbach confirm that they have parted company with head coach Andre Schubert after Tuesday's 2-1 home defeat to Wolfsburg.

Borussia Monchengladbach have parted company with coach Andre Schubert, it has been confirmed.

The 45-year-old, who succeeded Lucien Favre last September, leaves with the club in 14th place in the Bundesliga, only two points above the bottom three.

Schubert was appointed on a permanent basis in November last year after a caretaker spell, but speculation over his future had been mounting with the club enduring a difficult season.

The news came just hours after Tuesday night's 2-1 home defeat to fellow strugglers Wolfsburg.

Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl told the club's website: "We have held a lot of talks in recent days, analysed our on-the-pitch development and discussed the situation in detail, and together with Andre we have come to the conclusion that it is better for both sides to call an end to our collaboration.

"Andre helped us a great deal last season when he led the team from the last place in the table to fourth place and the playoffs at the start of this season into the Champions League. But the development has stalled for various reasons. We decided to refresh things with another coach."

Gladbach added that they would announce their new coach "in due course", with their Bundesliga campaign not restarting until January 21.
