Dwight Gayle agrees new Crystal Palace deal until 2019

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew reveals that Dwight Gayle has agreed a new long-term contract at the club.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has revealed that Dwight Gayle has agreed a new contract until 2019 at Selhurst Park.

Palace accepted a £9m bid from Bristol City for Gayle last summer, but the striker rejected the move and rebuffed Norwich City's advances.

Gayle has struggled for first-team action this season due to injury, and his start in last weekend's 1-0 victory over Norwich City was his first since October.

"I believe that contract is agreed," The Guardian quotes Pardew as saying. "If it's signed, I'm not 100% sure, but he's a player who scores goals and we've missed him for long periods this season.

"All our strikers have been out for too long - we've never had a continuous run with one of them, and that's probably one of the reasons the goals tally next to their names don't really reflect their ability."

Gayle joined Palace from Peterborough United in 2013.
