Report: Crystal Palace in talks with Shola Ameobi

Crystal Palace begin talking to Premier League veteran and free agent Shola Ameobi over a January move to Selhurst Park, according to reports.

Crystal Palace have reportedly opened negotiations with former Newcastle United striker and free agent Shola Ameobi.

The Premier League veteran has been without a club since December after calling time on his six-month spell at Turkish side Gaziantep.

The 33-year-old has recently been linked with a reunion with former Magpies boss Alan Pardew at Selhurst Park but, according to Sky Sports News, both parties have now begun thrashing out a deal.

Pardew has already signed Arsenal striker Yaya Sanogo on loan this month, with the Frenchman on target in their FA Cup win at Southampton on Saturday.

Ameobi, who left Newcastle in the summer after 14 years at St James' Park, hit 79 goals in 397 senior appearances for the North-East club.
