Phil Jagielka pleased Roy Hodgson was kept on as England manager

Phil Jagielka admits that he was pleased to see Roy Hodgson keep his job as England manager after the Three Lions' disappointing World Cup campaign last summer.

Phil Jagielka has admitted that he was happy to see Roy Hodgson remain as England manager after their disappointing World Cup campaign last summer.

The Three Lions failed to win a group game and were eliminated after their first two losses to Italy and Uruguay, but the Everton defender was glad Hodgson was kept on by the Football Association.

He told reporters: "We were all massively disappointed with the way the World Cup went. Qualifying went pretty well and we were all confident of having a good World Cup. But unfortunately it never happened.

"It was nice to see Roy was given another chance. It was always going to be a nervy opening to the European qualifying but the boys are fantastic, it proved we backed him, it proved it was the right decision."

England are currently top of their Euro 2016 qualifying group with four straight victories, and the Three Lions host Lithuania on Friday.
