Salomon Kalou: 'Ligue 1 tougher than Premier League'

Former Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou says that it is easier to score in the Premier League than it is in Ligue 1.

Striker Salomon Kalou believes that it is harder to score goals in France compared to notching in England.

The Ivory Coast international spent six seasons at Chelsea and found the back of the net 37 times in the Premier League during that stint, but has managed to score just 17 goals in a little over a year with Lille.

"It's very hard," Kalou told the official Ligue 1 website. "Most of the teams that you play don't want to lose. That's the first option. So you don't find the same space you find in the Premier League.

"Here it is more tactically organised, [the opposition] observe you, they take their time, they don't rush on anything. It makes it harder to have chances to score. It makes it very interesting. You have to be patient and you have to be effective, because you're not going to have a lot of chances.

"You have to be focused on scoring from the one chance you can make a difference with."

Lille were knocked out of the Coupe de la Ligue on Tuesday night after a 1-0 loss to Auxerre.
