Danny Ings returns to Liverpool training

Liverpool confirm that striker Danny Ings has returned to first-team training for the first time in nine months following a serious knee injury.

Liverpool have confirmed that striker Danny Ings has returned to first-team training for the first time since suffering a serious knee injury in October.

The 24-year-old's time at Anfield has been blighted by injuries so far, with the former Burnley man being limited to just 10 Premier League appearances since his move to Merseyside in 2015.

Ings remained at the club to continue his recovery throughout the summer, and he joined his teammates in a light session at their Melwood training ground this morning.

"Danny Ings made the latest step on his road to full fitness on Saturday morning by joining his teammates in running exercises at Melwood," read a statement on the club's official website.

"It was the striker's first session alongside the rest of the Liverpool squad since sustaining a knee injury against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup last October which subsequently required surgery.

"Ings remained at the club's training ground for most of the summer to continue his rehabilitation programme."

Ings is not yet ready to return to full training, but is edging closer to contention for Jurgen Klopp's side.
