Ignacio Camacho own goal sinks Malaga

An own goal from Ignacio Camacho helps Granada beat Malaga 1-0 and move three points clear of safety in La Liga.

An own goal from Ignacio Camacho helped breathe new life into Granada's survival bid as they beat Malaga 1-0 at Los Carmenes tonight.

The midfielder diverted Robert Ibanez's header into his own net shortly before the hour mark as Abel Resino's side move three points clear of safety in La Liga.

It was Resino's men who looked the better side early on and Javi Marquez went close after just six minutes with an effort that whizzed past the post.

Malaga forward Juanmi had a goal correctly ruled out for offside, but the visitors failed to build on that momentum as Granada continued to dominate.

Marquez was at the forefront of the action once again as he forced Carlos Kameni into a fine save on 31 minutes, while Ibanez also found himself denied by the Cameroonian shortly before the break.

The deadlock was broken on 57 minutes as Granada earned a deserved lead, but Camacho nearly atoned for the mishap by rattling the crossbar from outside the box eight minutes later.

Dimitri Foulquier and Jhon Cordoba both spurned glorious chances to kill off the contest late on, but neither misses proved costly as the hosts held on.
