Manuel Pellegrini: Manchester City were "very solid"

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes that his side was "very solid" in their first match of the new Premier League season.

Manuel Pellegrini has described Manchester City's performance in their opening match of the new Premier League season as "very solid".

David Silva and Sergio Aguero were both on the scoresheet for the defending champions as they secured a 2-0 win over Newcastle United this afternoon.

The manager told BBC Sport: "It was very important for us to start with a win. We talked to the squad about the two h's, we were hungry and humble.

"We need both if want to continue winning titles and improve on what we did last season. We didn't have any clean sheets in pre-season but we were very solid in this game."

City face Liverpool next Monday.
