Yaya Toure hopes Manchester City sign players who can push club back to the top

Yaya Toure is hopeful that Manchester City's new signings this summer will restore the club's status as a "top team".

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has said that he is hopeful new recruits this summer will help the club become a "top team" again.

The North-West outfit are yet to strengthen their first team, but they have been linked to Liverpool star Raheem Sterling, Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne and Juventus's prized asset Paul Pogba.

Last season, Manuel Pellegrini's side lost their grip on the Premier League title, which was eventually comfortably won by Chelsea.

"We are looking forward to the new players coming to try to help the club and do something big," Toure told CityTV. "We want to do something big this year. I hope maybe in a couple of days new players come and make this club a top team next year.

"The club has been built to top this league and when we finish in second it is quite disappointing. We want to bounce back. This club don't have to be second or third. We always have to finish first."

City will begin the new season away at The Hawthorns against West Bromwich Albion on August 10.
