Scholes: 'Paul Pogba not good enough'

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes that Jose Mourinho has lost trust in Paul Pogba, having once again left him out of his starting lineup against Brighton.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has admitted that Paul Pogba has not been good enough to warrant a place in Jose Mourinho's starting lineup in recent weeks.

The midfielder was once again left out for this evening's FA Cup quarter-final win over Brighton & Hove Albion, having also been named amongst the substitutes for United's key Champions League game against Sevilla in midweek.

Reports of a fallout between Mourinho and Pogba have rumbled under the surface throughout this season, but Scholes backed Mourinho's decision to drop the France international.

"Paul does bring risk to this play. He makes you a better team if he's on form. He hasn't played today because in the last two months the quality of his game has not been good enough," Scholes told BT Sport.

"I think the manager has lost a little bit of trust in him. But there is still time for him - he's a young player, he'll gain confidence. We know he can play, he just needs to start playing better."

Pogba has started only 18 of United's 30 Premier League games this season.
