Jesse Lingard aims to stay and fight for his place at Manchester United

Jesse Lingard reveals that he plans to stay and fight for his place as a Manchester United player next season.

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has said that he hopes to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place rather than departing on loan.

The former England Under-21 international was sent out to Derby County on loan after suffering a knee injury in United's opening game against Swansea City last season, but is aiming to be part of Louis van Gaal's plans next term.

"The manager has not said anything to me at the moment regarding my future," Lingard told PA.

"I am looking to stay for the first couple of months and see what it's like. Obviously I would like to stay for the rest of the season, this is my club. This is where I want to stay."

Lingard has so far been involved in both of United's pre-season friendlies in the United States, playing his part in victories against Club America and the San Jose Earthquakes.

The 22-year-old added: "The manager has been playing me off the right this time, and he said he would like to get two players for each position [this season]. The tour has been really good at the moment. I was [on loan] last year so it's good to be back with all the lads and the backroom staff."

United's next pre-season tie is due to take place against Barcelona on Saturday.
