New England Revolution earned an important 2-0 home win over Toronto in their MLS Eastern Conference clash at Gillette Stadium.
The visitors had a great chance to take the lead in the 15th minute when Jeremy Brockie capitalised on an error from Stephen McCarthy but his effort was smothered by Bobby Shuttleworth in the New England goal.
The Revolution made Brockie pay for his missed chance when they took the lead in the 23rd minute when Diego Fagundez volleyed home Chris Tierney's cross first time past Joe Bendik.
After the break, New England almost made it two when Lee Nguyen picked up the loose ball in midfield and drove towards goal but his long-range effort smacked off the crossbar and was cleared.
Fagundez nearly turned provider to double his side's lead late in the game but his cross was tipped away from the on rushing Juan Agudelo by the fingertips of Bendik, saving a certain goal.
The Revolution finally got their second goal when Saer Sene crossed the ball towards the near post where Agudelo was waiting and he turned it into the bottom corner to seal the win for the hosts.
