Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew hits back at Graeme Souness's sack claims

Alan Pardew hits back at Graeme Souness's claims that Newcastle United should sack him following his apparent headbutt on Hull City midfielder David Meyler.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has hit back at former boss Graeme Souness after he called for Pardew's sacking following his apparent headbutt on Hull City midfielder David Meyler.

Pardew was send to the stands for the incident, which occurred while Meyler was trying to retrieve the ball once it went out of play during the Magpies' 4-1 win over Hull.

According to The Independent, Pardew responded to Souness's criticism by saying: "It's a bit strong coming from him. He's the man who took a flag and planted it in the middle of an Istanbul derby. But people have their own opinions, I can't do anything about that."

The 52-year-old, who was fined £100,000 by the club, is expected to discover today whether he will face any punishment from the Football Association for his actions.
