Real Madrid to further appeal transfer ban after losing initial plea

Real Madrid confirm that they will take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after being handed a ban that prevents them from signing any new players.

Real Madrid will appeal against their FIFA ban on signing new players by taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the coming days.

The Spanish giants, along with local rivals Atletico Madrid, were handed the ban after a breach of rules concerning the transfer of foreign youngsters under the age of 18.

Both clubs were granted a period of 90 days to rectify any issues, and Real have now taken the first step towards seeing the sanction - which will prevent them from bringing in new faces until 2018 - overturned before the New Year.

"The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has granted the precautionary measures that Real Madrid appealed for following the sanction issued by FIFA," a club statement read. "Therefore, the minors affected by said sanction may now play for their respective clubs."

Real were also fined £249,000 for the offence, while Atletico were made to pay around three times that figure, with both seeing their initial pleas rejected earlier this month.
