Everton are allegedly regarded as the frontrunners to sign Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez during the January transfer window.

Everton have allegedly remained as the frontrunners to complete a deal for Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez.

Despite months of speculation regarding his future, it was suggested earlier this week that Los Blancos intend to keep hold of Rodriguez for the rest of the season.

However, regardless of Real's reported stance, El Desmarque claims that Everton hold a strong interest in the Colombia international.

The report suggests that newly-appointed boss Carlo Ancelotti is eager to work with the 28-year-old, whom he initially wanted to sign at Napoli before his departure.

While the La Liga giants are said to value Rodriguez at £43m, Everton are seemingly prepared to meet that valuation, whether that be next month or in the summer.

The player has made just five starts and four substitute outings in all competitions since the beginning of the campaign.
