Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe believes that the club's new signings will take Andre Villas-Boas's side to the next level.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe believes that the club's new signings this summer will take them to the "next level".

Spurs have already completed deals for Brazil international Paulinho and Belgium winger Nacer Chadli, while Andre Villas-Boas's side are reportedly closing in on a move to sign Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.

Defoe told The Mirror: "You're talking about three top players who are going to take Tottenham to the next level.

"Yes, people may say that we missed out on Champions League football last season. But you look at the way the club has responded and straightaway you are excited about the way the team is being restructured to go again."

Spurs could lose winger Gareth Bale after Real Madrid submitted a world record £85m for the Wales international.
