Xherdan Shaqiri: 'Switzerland can cope with expectation'

Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri insists that his team can cope with the pressure of being expected to perform at the World Cup finals.

Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri has insisted that he and his team can deal with the pressure placed on their shoulders at the World Cup finals in Brazil.

The European outfit are ranked in sixth place in the FIFA world rankings, and ahead of their fixture with France on Friday, Shaqiri believes that Switzerland can continue to show that they are an improving side.

The 22-year-old told Bundesliga.com: "Technically, we've improved a lot. I don't think Switzerland have ever been as strong as we are at the moment.

"The expectation is an honour, as well as a burden, but it's pressure that I can cope with very well."

Switzerland began their World Cup campaign by netting a last-minute winner to get the better of Ecuador on Sunday.
