Andy Carroll undergoes season-ending knee surgery

Injury-hit West Ham striker Andy Carroll appears positive after undergoing the knee surgery that is expected to end his season.

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has undergone the knee surgery that is expected to sideline him for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old suffered medial ligament damage in the 0-0 draw with Southampton last week and stayed on as the Hammers had used all of their substitutions.

Carroll missed the first three months of the campaign with a foot problem, but remains upbeat despite another fitness setback.

He tweeted on Tuesday: "Today's surgery went great and glad to be put back together into one piece!"

Carroll has scored five goals in 16 appearances in all competitions for West Ham this term.
