South Africa hooker Bismarck du Plessis has insisted that the Springboks are not yet looking ahead to the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals after beating Scotland in Newcastle on Saturday.
South Africa, who were stunned in their tournament opener against Japan, have won back-to-back games to go top of Pool B, but they are not yet qualified with Scotland a point behind and Japan three back.
If the Springboks do get through, they will face either Wales or Australia after the latter ended England's tournament at the group stage, but Du Plessis told Sports Mole that he was not looking that far ahead yet.
"If you look too far ahead you can slip on the first step that's in front of you," he said.
Du Plessis, who is playing at his third World Cup, was happy with the Springboks display at St James' Park, but felt that Scotland scored their solitary try too easily.
"We're happy with our performance, but annoyed about the one try we let in," he added. "I thought it was a little bit against the run of play."
South Africa's final group match is against bottom-side USA at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday.
