Sol Campbell: "Anger never goes away" for Tottenham Hotspur fans

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal defender Sol Campbell admits that he is surprised by how much anger still remains over his move across North London in 2001.

Sol Campbell has said that he does not understand why some Tottenham Hotspur fans are still angry about his move from White Hart Lane to North London rivals Arsenal nearly a decade and a half ago.

The former England international defender incurred the wrath of Spurs supporters when he moved on a free transfer to the Gunners in 2014, going on to win multiple Premier League titles and being a member of the club's 'Invincibles' of 2003-04.

However, Campbell admitted that he is surprised about how much animosity remains over the move, particularly from fans who were not even aware of the transfer when it happened.

"Some of the fans have moved on but they have not totally forgotten," he told the Daily Mail. "If I was coaching in America for 20 years, maybe they would.

"I am 41 this year and people who were perhaps five at the time I went to Arsenal, or were not even born, feel strongly about it. Who is perpetuating this? It is incredible. People have a mental block. The anger never goes away."

Campbell, who played 315 times for Spurs before his controversial exit, went on to make 211 appearances for Arsenal before retiring in 2012.
