England boss Roy Hodgson: 'Michael Carrick injury not that serious'

England boss Roy Hodgson says that Michael Carrick's calf injury is "not that serious" after the Manchester United midfielder withdrew from the squad.

England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that the calf injury suffered by Michael Carrick is "not that serious".

The midfielder has returned to Manchester United after picking up the injury while on international duty with the Three Lions.

Hodgson has confirmed that Carrick was taken out of the squad as a "precaution", but it is not yet known how long the 34-year-old is likely to be on the treatment table for.

"It's a calf injury - not that serious," Hodgson told reporters. "It came out of nowhere in the warm-up in San Marino. Out of precaution, we didn't push it. He had a preliminary scan here with our doctors. They decided there's something there."

Carrick was also forced to withdraw from the England squad last November.
