Atletico Madrid go top of La Liga with win at Real Betis

Atletico Madrid beat Real Betis 2-0 thanks to goals from Diego Costa and Gabi.

Atletico Madrid maintained their La Liga title push with a 2-0 win against struggling Real Betis this afternoon.

Los Rojiblancos went level on points with neighbours Real Madrid at the top of the division as second half goals from Gabi and Diego Costa saw Diego Simeone's side ease to victory at Benito Villamarin.

The victory takes Atleti top of the table by virtue of the head-to-head with their fierce local rivals.

Atletico Madrid's Brazilian forward Diego da Silva Costa (C) vies with goalkeeper Adan and Brazilian defender Paulao (R) during the Spanish league football match

Bryan Rodriguez was given his marching orders on 56 minutes for a second booking, and Atleti made their advantage count two minutes later when Gabi opened the scoring.

Costa then added his 23rd strike of the campaign on 64 minutes to wrap the points up for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid host Barcelona in El Clasico this evening.
