Quevilly knock Bastia out of Coupe de France with victory after penalties

Fourth-tier Quevilly knock Bastia out of the last 16 of the Coupe de France following a 3-1 win on penalties at the Stade Lozai.

Fourth-tier outfit Quevilly knocked Ligue 1 Bastia out of the Coupe de France at the Stade Lozai this evening with a 3-1 victory after penalties.

There were few openings in the first half, but Ligue 1 side Bastia were closest to the breakthrough when Alexander Djiku hit the post on the half-hour mark.

Not long after, Quevilly midfielder Anthony Rogie tested Bastia keeper Thomas Vincensini with a dipping free kick.

Half-time team talks failed to inspire the players as chances continued to be few and far between after the interval.

Adama Sarr had the chance to win it for Quevilly in 90 minutes late on, but he missed the target.

The first goal came right at the start of the second period of extra time as Djibril Cisse found the net.

The higher-ranked visitors might have been expected to kill the game off, but Quevilly were level less than 10 minutes later through Adama Sarr, meaning penalties that were required to determines the outcome.

With the spot kicks underway there was a slight sense of an upset in the air, and Quevilly duly delivered with a historic 3-1 victory.
