Lorient were almost ahead after just six minutes when Mehdi Mostefa leapt highest to power a header towards goal, only for Cedric Carrasso to pull off a smart save which eventually saw the Bordeaux stopper substituted due to injury.
The visitors were more clinical with their next major chance as they took the lead in the 31st minute, when Benjamin Jeannot gambled to reach a loose ball and tuck home from close range.
It looked as though Lorient would sneak into the interval with an important, only for Diego Rolan to produce a fine cross that found Wahbi Khazr, who finished with his right foot into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.
Parity was not to last too long, however, given that Lorient went back ahead early in the second period. Walid Mesloub broke away at pace to supply Vincent Le Goff, who finished with his left foot into the bottom corner.
The game continued to sway from end to end and Bordeaux made use of a mad five minutes to give themselves a chance to win the fixture, with Diabate firstly scoring a goal that saw him head in from Toure's cross.
The forward then came back just two minutes later to score the goal that would ultimately win his side the game, as he finished into the top-left corner following Khazri's whipped delivery.
