Conference Premier roundup: Halifax Town go two points clear

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday's action in the Conference Premier as Halifax Town move to the top of the table with a 3-0 win at Chester FC.

Halifax Town have returned to the top of the Conference Premier table after they recorded a 3-0 victory away at Chester FC.

Richard Peniket, Scott Boden and Matty Pearson all got on the scoresheet to take the Shaymen two points clear of Forest Green Rovers and Lincoln City.

Lincoln joined Forest Green on 10 points with a 3-2 triumph over Braintree Town, but Barnet and Wrexham both stayed in touch of the top three with wins on Saturday afternoon.

Two early goals from Charlie MacDonald were enough to earn Barnet a 2-0 victory away at Nuneaton Town, while Wrexham held on to edge out pointless Alfreton Town by a 3-2 scoreline.

The surprise result of the day came at the Gateshead International Stadium as the home side were thrashed 6-1 by Grimsby Town, with Scott Neilson and Lenell John-Lewis both registering doubles for the Mariners.

Macclesfield Town and Kidderminster Harriers maintained their unbeaten records after sharing a goalless draw at Moss Rose.

Dover Athletic claimed their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win over previously-unbeaten Eastleigh, but AFC Telford United remain without a win after losing 1-0 at Bristol Rovers.

Torquay United were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Dartford, while Welling United and Woking played out a 1-1 draw at Park View Road.

The final result of the day saw Southport win their first match of the season after Luke Brodie struck a last-minute winner against Altrincham.
