Forest Green Rovers fight back to beat Woking

Forest Green Rovers come from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Woking in the Conference Premier.

Forest Green Rovers have overturned an early deficit to record a 2-1 victory over Woking in their Conference Premier fixture at The New Lawn.

The home side had the better of the opening 20 minutes, with Danny Coles seeing a header well claimed by Ross Worner, but against the run of play, Woking took the lead when Dean Morgan turned on the edge of the area before firing in his eighth goal of the campaign.

However, Rovers ended the opening period on the front foot and they netted the first of two goals in the space of six minutes through Jon Parkin, who reacted fastest during a goalmouth scramble to direct the ball into the net.

The second arrived from Luke Oliver, who beat his marker to head home his first goal of the season to give his team the advantage at the break.

Woking returned for the second half with more ambition as Josh Payne and Morgan both shot wide before Joey Jones had a low attempt comfortably saved by Sam Russell.

It was all Woking and Russell was called upon again to tip a venomous Payne strike wide of the post as the visitors threatened an equaliser.

Kelly curled a free kick just wide for the home side but as the clock ticked into the final 10 minutes, Woking began to increase the pressure as they tried to close the gap on leaders Barnet.

However, after a Morgan shot cleared the crossbar, Forest Green were able to confirm the three points that take them level on points with fifth-placed Grimsby Town.
