Brendan Rodgers: 'My assistants are critical to Liverpool's success'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers praises the work of his backroom staff by describing them as "critical" to his team's Premier League title push.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised the work of his assistants by describing them as "critical" to his side's title push.

The Reds are currently top of the Premier League and are five wins from winning the title.

The Northern Irishman talked up the support he has received from his backroom staff this term, and believes that their work has been integral to the good results.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Rodgers said: "I get wonderful support from my assistants. My staff here are absolutely critical to what we've done. I couldn't do it on my own and they are a key part of the success here.

"When I went into Swansea, I went in on my own. I felt that I probably diluted myself too much during my short time in charge at Reading.

"I needed to get back to taking the sessions and doing the work, but obviously you need capable assistants to work with you."

The Reds host Manchester City on Sunday.
