Lyon held at home by Valenciennes

Valenciennes take a point from today's Ligue 1 clash with Lyon at the Stade de Gerland.

Lyon have lost further ground in the battle for Champions League qualification after being held to a 1-1 draw by Valenciennes at home.

The home side got off to a strong start, taking the lead through Bafetimbi Gomis in the 15th minute thanks to a cross from Henri Bedimo.

Remi Vercoutre saved from Gregory Pujol before Marco Silva sliced off target in the 34th minute.

The visitors drew level in the 65th minute through on-loan striker Jean-Christophe Bahebeck, although Jimmy Briand should have restored Les Gones' lead four minutes later, as Nicolas Penneteau came to the rescue.

Remi Garde's men were unable to force a winner before the final whistle, meaning that they are now sixth in Ligue 1.
